Walking across Geo-Biodiversity, between Culture and Mediterranean Landscapes of Sea and Hills

Our territory is characterized by an alternation of agricultural areas, woods, Mediterranean scrub, grazings and historical centres, offering a very meaningful landscape and stressing harmonies and problems typical of the Mediterranean rural areas. Across these landscapes, a traveller can get the precious opportunity to read these signs and to interpret the possibilities of a sustainable and eco-touristic development  of places in a proper way starting from eras of geology that gave birth this great diversity.

Path on the sea

We offer routes of knowledge along with walkers with differences: trekking, cycling paths for mountain bikes and race bikes or walkings.

Inland, across WWF Oasis of Morigerati 'Grotte del Bussento' with the Museum of Rural Culture, two sinkholes of Orsivacca and Caselle in Caselle in Pittari, archeologic areas of Laurelli in Caselle and Roccagloriosa with their museums, from the  medieval village of Vibonati to Greek and Roman ruines of Policastro, from 'Capelli di Venere' Oasis  in Casaletto Spartano to the ruines of General Massenzio's Roman thermal villa  in Sapri.

Coast of Maratea

On the coast so many emotions from Maratea Coast until and beyond Protected Sea Area of Masseta and   Infreschi at Scario, precious village of Gulf of Policastro. It is easy  from here  to reach the Natural Arc of Palinuro, Bay of Buondormire, Cala Bianca (the best beach of Italy 2014),  Bay of  Infreschi (best beach of Italy 2015), Maratea Coast, Marcellino Beach with other amazing beaches of Masseta, the Channel and the Beach of Mezzanotte  between Sapri and Maratea, Bay of Acquafredda, Cersuta village until the splendid coast of Filocaio between Maratea and Castrocucco with the popular Spiaggia Nera (Black Beach), Saline Beach in Palinuro and the famous  Grotta Azzurra until  the dune beaches in Marina di Camerota.

A Paradise for Cyclo-Tourists and Mountain Bikers

Bikers into the wood

Travelling on two wheels you can live our emotions and times for a while by our food culture, the atmosphere of an inhabited rural house all year long so not only in the summertime for tourists, land work and cooperation with the territory, thanks to roads and paths connecting some suburbs of the Gulf of Policastro from the Casale.

As a matter of fact, we are next to a road that s traditionally used by Cilentan shepherds and in the past probably used as a thoroughfare  of cattle and people, so it offers many routes, both paved and unpaved, with an alternation between sea, incomparable landscapes and mountain with its woods, sources, cultivated or wild tablelands .

Casale Il Sughero was co-founder and  first active station from 2011 to 2014 of the project defined Ciucciopolitana, slow trip on foot  across suburbs, old ways, fountains, sites of rural archaeology and naturalistic/artistic interest and now it offers the two wheels   live Cilento  authentically.

Maps and paths...

If you want to spend a cycling holiday we offer four circular routes, all starting from the Casale, four itineraries that you can do each in one day to discover the beauties of our silent and fascinating streets.

These are experiences that will make you explore and learn more about the surroundings, between mountains and woods and at the same time sea and coastal paths, to get to know the lower Cilento and nearby Lucania, territories that deserve to be explored carefully.

Several Legs of a Slow Travel Across Geosites of an 'Inner' Cilento

Hiking is one of the principal activities offered at Casale Il Sughero. There are  a lot of interpretations of a territory, we have chosen to start from the one beginning from Cilento as Geopark. Cilento, before being strongly biodifferent is geodifferent: UNESCO had found 24 geosites, 160 in total in the whole Park including the Adjoining Areas in our district (that is 'landscape area' called 'Monte Forcella-Serralunga con il fiume Bussento'). It is possible going across different paths that go along the history of the place and across the geosites. There are someones near and reachable on foot from here and  connecting the most meaningful places of the district, living them both by trekking/bike-trekking and on foot/cycling.

Moreover, whoever comes here has the opportunity to share our life-style and know the social and anthropologic landscape, along with the natural and architectural one,  of the Southern Lucanian Cilento, often unknown and bordering to Basilicata region.

This part of Cilento is rich of animals, water, sea and woods and we call it 'Cilento Interiore e Ulteriore', (Inner and Ulterior Cilento) to stress the difference from other well-known places in the region because it is absolutely more authentic.

Educational-exploratory ring of Casale Il Sughero

Amedeo and Lisa accompany you on a 4.5 km long walking path and introduce you to the themes of biodiversity and rurality in the Cilento Park.
The route lasts about 2h30 '(excluding bivouac break) with little difference in height, also suitable for children, pets, to be done on foot or with a donkey, dedicated to guests of the Casale and cycle-travelers of the Via Silente as an introductory experience to the their stay and travel in Cilento.

By downloading this gps track you can also do the route independently.

It starts from Casale Il Sughero to the Contrada Grasso di Vibonati and immediately enters the Pineta di Santa Lucia where a ring path begins where gradually the pines give way to the Mediterranean scrub vegetation and to the native forest, among traces of old rural settlements, some small springs and panoramas of the hinterland of the lower Cilento.

Once you arrive at a wooden bivouac with a fireplace, you can eat there with the products of the Casale and rest before resuming the journey and finally return to Casale Il Sughero.

The whole route is in the shade of vegetation and is the starting point for guests staying at the Casale to be introduced by Lisa and Amedeo to the theme of decoding the rural and biodiverse potential of the Cilento National Park.

Ancient road path from the Casale to the historic center of Vibonati

From the Contrada Grasso along the old connecting road you reach the historic center of the village of Vibonati, from where you can access the Sanctuary of Sant'Antonio Abate, the old Convent and the sea through other paths.

The path that connects the B & B Casale Il Sughero to Vibonati is panoramic over the valley and the sea and easy and in 30 minutes you arrive in the country through old ruins, cork plants, Mediterranean vegetation, large Pisciottan olive trees and the stone houses of the country.
